REVIEW: Sephora Pret-a-Porter Palette – Limited Edition

** Warning: EXTREMELY Picture Heavy!

Product & Packaging

Front View

Love this palette! Not just your typical looking square looking palette with all the colors visible to your eyes as you open the palette. Sephora Pret-a-Porter is one unique palette that I’d say “Form Follows Function”. Clueless about what I just said?  It’s a saying/ principle usually used in the design/ industrial industry. According to wikipedia, that sentence simply means that the shape of a building or object should be primarily based upon its intended function or purpose. In this case, I am referring to this palette. IMO, the palette is intended for traveling purposes, convenience and space-saving It takes up very little space on your dresser. It’s like a mini cupboard with 6 drawers of a complete palette of a certain shade that includes 4 eyeshadows, 2 lip glosses and a blush. How brilliant is that!!?! Oh! And did I mention how light it is? VERY LIGHT! Of course, the black and white design/ color scheme should be able to fit perfectly into most makeup/ vanity table.

Back View – The portable palette is placed here

This palette even includes a traveling compact that allows you to place a mini palette of your choice to take with you! All you have to do is pick out the palette you used to create the look you have, and place into the compact. Once you hear a “click” sound, it means your mini palette is secure safely in the travel compact. When you’re back from your holiday/ whatever usage you had for it, you just have to push it out from behind the compact where the hole is seen and place back onto the rack of shadows.  You will also hear a “click” sound when placing back the mini palette into the rack. Therefore, your mini palettes won’t just drop off the rack in an event it is knocked over accidentally. You can even carry this around with you in your purse as it’s size is not like a typical 88 or 120 palette. Great for dinners and any formal occasions when you do need to touch up in the midst of the event. Simply looks pretty in your purse.

This is the hole you should look for when you need to take the mini palette out

Price

Very affordable for 42 shades of a mixture of eyeshadows, lip glosses and blush. Retailing at RM154.00 (USD$48.15) which is equivalent to RM3.70 (USD$1.15) per color.  This is by far the cheapest palette I have ever purchased in my life! Other than limited editions, I am a sucker for all things “palettes”, and limited editions of course! That explains the need to go on impulse online purchases!

Quality

The quality is not too bad. As I was doing the color swatch for this review, the mini palette got dirty with all the fall out from the swatch I was doing. And me being me, not being able to see my mini palette being dirty with fallout, I tapped it gently on a piece of tissue to get rid of the access fallout for it to look clean like brand new. And guess what happened!?! One of the eyeshadow just fell out onto the tissue. I was so upset that it happened. All cosmetics I purchased are like prized possessions! It has to look close to brand new! I had to use my fingers to pick it up and place it back onto the mini palette and it just got worse. It broke into half!  Gosh, now I am left with a broken eyeshadow and I am so irritated with that. I haven’t even done a look for friggin sakes!

The eyeshadow that fell out *sob*

The not-so-pretty palette

The saved eyeshadow all shattered *sigh*

Some colors were not pigmented at all. The swatches were done with NYX Eyeshadow Base in white. On a white base, colors are usually more vibrant and true to its color. Not in this case for some of the colors in the palette. Some needed a few application to achieve a reasonably good color swatch. I had a problem with the palette that had the silver (black string mini palette) in it when I was creating a night look. I applied the silver three times and yet it looks very colorless and so I decided to add some white to keep it alive. It still looks the same.

Most of the colors were either very shimmery or glitter. Very few matte colors were seen in the palette. The shimmery and matte colors were the more pigmented colors in the palette whereas I find that the more glittery colors were very opaque. Some of the blushes included were either shimmery or matte with pink and peach shades. There are shades of neutral, purple, pinks, greens, blues and dark/silver that compliment most skin tones. I personally prefer matte and shimmery eye colors and for blushes definitely matte! I have a problem with really huge pores, and shimmery products usually magnifies the problem. Can anyone recommend what I can do with my huge pores?

Product of China.

Swatch

All swatches done and photos are taken with love and much time spent despite my busy schedule. Enjoy! The color stated in the picture is as per the string color for easy reference. Below are the swatches of the whole palette individually and close up shots:

Place of Purchase

I purchased this from Sephora, Starhill Gallery. At the time of purchase, there were still quite a number palettes available. Not available for online purchase in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. So, if you are really interested in purchasing this palette, best to ring the store up and inquire the availability of the palette. Just so you don’t have to purposely make a trip down to Sephora and realize that it is sold out. And yes, it is limited edition! Usually, if I can’t get my hands on anything, I’ll turn to Ebay!

Awesome and super excited about this palette. There are 6 mini palettes and therefore I intend to create a complete look with each palette. Stay tune for the 6 looks I will be posting up. But… of course, I will have to create looks for the Limited Edition Sigma Paris Palette. I’ve just put up the review here. I’ve also posted a cosmetics haul here. Do check it out! It is a very interesting palette; “value for money”! Has any beauty bloggers purchase Sephora’s Pret-a-Porter Palette yet? Do share even if you’re across the globe.. Love to exchange eye looks and reviews! Also, if you do have any products that you are unsure of and would like to know further about, please feel free to drop me an email and will try my best to review the product for you. I love doing this remember? But of course, I will need time to purchase and review as I still have a day job. Till then, toodles!

REVIEW: Sigma Beauty The Paris Project – Paris Palette (Limited Edition)

**Warning: Picture Heavy!

Look what I discovered! It’s the Paris Palette by Sigma Beauty! 7 youtube gurus helped put this palette together. Check out the picture above with the listed youtube gurus. Out of the 7, I frequent 4 of their blogs.

My experience with Sigma Beauty

Purchased it on the 11th May and received it on the 21st May 2012. It was sent out on the 14th May and arrived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at the customs on the 18th May 2012. Reached my doorsteps on the 21st May 2012 when I was about to head out to Sephora, KL to get the Sephora Prep-a-Porter Palette *squeals and prance around like a little kid*. Impressed with the service!

This is my second purchase from Sigma Beauty. First purchase was from a while ago when I first purchased my set of brushes and haven’t started this blog yet and I have a very vague memory about my experience then. I made a purchase for this palette and guess what; COMPUTER GLITCH! An error came up and didn’t know if the payment went through so I did the whole order again and the same thing happened. Checked with paypal and the credit card provider, discovered I made 2 purchases of the Paris Palette instead of 1. And so, I emailed Sigma Beauty like 3 times and did not receive any reply so I decided to call up Sigma Beauty, USA and spoke to someone and immediately got a refund back for one palette. Wasn’t too happy when I didn’t get an immediately reply via email as I was worried they were gonna ship out 2 palettes to me but was really happy and relieved when the person I spoke to said she will work on the refund immediately. Checked paypal and I got my refund. Impressed again!

Product & Packaging

There was a plastic protector on top of the shadows and blushes

The booklet that came with the palette

- An introduction and quotes from the youtube gurus

The product involved 7 renowned youtube makeup gurus that developed the eyeshadow shades inspired by landmarks in the City of Lights; Paris. What an amazing experience! Wished I had the opportunity too! How awesome would it be to be flown from Kuala Lumpur to USA doing what you love to do?! The palette came in a box that was bubble wrapped properly and no breakage of any shadows/ blushes were seen. The palette contains 8 eyeshadow colors, 2 blushes and a highlighter. The eyeshadows come in a small rectangular pan size of 12 grams whereas the blushes and highlight comes in a bigger pan size containing 12 grams of product.

Love the package design! Just brings me back to Paris. I’ve been there once and such a packaging evokes memories. The palette is made out of cardboard packaging that contains a mirror. The mirror is big enough for you to do your makeup; 11.5 cm x 9 cm. It is easy to open as there are no clasp seen and may result in product fall out if placed in the purse. I prefer a sturdier packaging with a clasp just in case I go traveling.

There are two brushes included; Sigma E55 Shading Brush and Sigma F40 Large Angled Contour perfect for eyeshadow and blush application!  The handles are a little shorter than their regular line of brushes. Love how the brushes are great quality and usable. Sigma brushes does not fail you full stop. Most brushes that come with any palettes are usually not fantastic. Most of the time, I throw them away.

F40 Large Angle Contoured Close Up

Check out the handle with the silver holographic word “Paris” on it! Super awesome!

Price

Happen to check out xsparkage‘s blog and got a coupon code off her blog. USD$10 off the original price. So, I paid USD$49 plus USD$17.42 to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Shipping rates around USA should be less than what I paid for depending on the mail options you choose. It is rather affordable for those who pay and earn in USD but for us Malaysians, after conversion the palette costs RM212.55 which is rather steep for us. However, since I am a sucker and a great lover of all things limited edition, I’d buy and create looks. If you divide the costs, it is only RM19.95 per shade of color for the eyeshadow and blush.

Quality

The eyeshadows are really silky and smooth. It is pigmented and easy to glide onto the skin. However, after creating and playing around with several looks, I did notice that colors such as Versailles and Notre Dame had a lot of fall out during application due to it being really shimmery & glittery. The colors were easy to blend with what I use; NYX HD eye primer as a base. The blushes are amazing! A little goes a long way. I used Rouge as a contour on the cheeks and with one swipe of the product, I had a ton on my face which I had to blend it out as much as possible for a natural contoured look. The corally peach blush is awesome! Perfect for the season, don’t ya think? Product made in China, assembled in USA.

Swatch

One color I find interesting is Triomphe. It appears to be grey-ish in the pan and when swatched it turned out brown! Amazing. I had to stare hard at that color just to double-check if my eyes were playing tricks on me. The colors compliment most skin tones. Below are the colors and the youtube gurus with the color creation:

Eiffel –  MakeupbyTiffanyD

Seine – NIL

Louvre – Petrilude

Orsay – MacNC40

Elysees – DulceCandy87

Notre Dame – Xteener

Triomphe - FromHeadtoToe

Versaille – Xsparkage

I was so excited about this palette that the next day itself after receiving the parcel, I created an everyday look. Colors used on the eyes were Versaille and Elysee with Rouge as a contour and Peche as the blush (the contour and blush looks washed out, not sure if it’s visible to your eyes..)

Have you recently purchased the Sigma Paris Palette yet? Do share the review and any looks created with the palette. My favorite colors are Eiffel, Triomphe, Elysees and Orsay! What’s yours? Now that I have the palette, do stay tune for a series of looks that I will be creating with this palette. I am all amp-ed up to create a series of looks but …  I just gotta find time. Till then, toodles!

**I purchased this with my own hard-earned money. All reviews are of my honest opinions.

REVIEW: Kiss Me Heavy Rotation Liquid Eyeliner

OMG! I can’t believe how much I have been raving about this liquid eyeliner and have yet to review this for you. This is my go-to eyeliner and have yet to find any other eyeliner as good as this. Either it is way too expensive and does not do wonders for me or it is inexpensive and smudges on me. Trust me, I have tried various brands and type of eyeliners be it gel, liquid, you name it; low-end to high-end, they all either smudge on me or just fades throughout the day. So, for now, Kiss Me Heavy Rotation Liquid Eyeliner is my BFF.

Product & Packaging:

I like it how it comes in a sleek packaging like a pen. Easy to carry around or just pop it into your purse or makeup bag; perfect for traveling! Best of all, it is very light. I have tons of things I carry around in my bag, definitely appreciate a light liquid liner just in case any touch up is needed!

Price:

It is the most affordable liquid eyeliner that I know of. Retailing at USD$15.60 [RM49.90]  at SASA (Malaysia) and Watson Drugstore (Malaysia). If it is on sale, it is usually 10%-20%. So, I’d wait for the sale. I usually stock up every time I see it on sale.

Quality:

The intensity seen is from drawing the line twice

Brush tip enables you to draw a thick or thin line

The product is super long-lasting. I apply my eyeliner at around 9.30am everyday without fail and go to work up until 8.30pm, the eyeliner is still intact without any smudging in the crease or disappearing! Product of Japan. The color is intense black that when you draw it onto the lid, you just need to do it once/ twice. I like it really black so I usually go over the lines twice. There is only one color available; Black. You can create any look with this liquid liner; winged or doe line. There is no scent noticed during usage. Easy removal with any eye make up remover or just warm water. I have used about 20 of these liquid eyeliners and still counting. It is that great. I have never raved so much about a product before so this product is definitely a “YAY!” and highly recommended. Available in SASA and Watson, Malaysia.

Will I buy it again?:

Yes, Yes & Yes.

Is this eyeliner available in your country? Please do share the location to purchase just in case someone would like to try it! Till then, toodles!
